Abstract

XML database management systems (XDBMS) need to provide more flexibility and adaptivity than classical database technology. Reasons for this are the structural diversity of XML documents and the complex processing concepts combining the declarative, set-oriented paradigm with structural navigation and update. The central goal of the project is to improve adaptivity on all layers of the XDBMS and link this adaptivity to the application programming interface of the XDBMS.

Within this project, the Softech Group works on a high-level XML programming model and interface for XML databases integrating features from DOM, SAX, and XQuery. One goal of this model is to better address adaptivity aspects of the underlying XDBMS.
